WLUML at the forefront of documenting the gendered impact of extremist and fundamentalist movements on women’s rights.
1992
UN GA Resolution 47/96 emphasized women’s equal participation in political and public life.
1993
“Women’s Rights Are Human Rights” affirmed at the World Conference on Human Rights in Vienna.
1993–1995
UN Declaration on the Elimination of Violence Against Women influenced the 1994 Cairo Conference and 1995 Beijing Conference.
1996–2001
WLUML engaged in campaigns denouncing Taliban’s first regime and its gender apartheid policies.
2000
UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace & Security recognized the importance of women in peacebuilding.
2005
WLUML co-founded the Women Human Rights Defenders International Coalition.
2008
UNSC Resolution 1820 recognized sexual violence as a weapon of war and a threat to peace.
2010s
WLUML defended women’s access to public spaces and challenged legal and societal restrictions.
2024
WLUML actively supported the revival and expansion of the Women Human Rights Defenders International Coalition.
